Probal Dasgupta (born 19 September 1953, Kolkata, India) was the president (2007–2013) of the Universala Esperanto-Asocio ((英語:Universal Esperanto Association)). Dasgupta obtained his PhD from New York University (1980; thesis title: ''Questions and Relative and Complement Clauses in a Bangla Grammar'') and became professor for applied linguistics at University of Hyderabad in 1989. He is currently at the Linguistic Research Unit of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
